Scholarships and Prizes

The Francis Bacon MB Art Foundation and its founder, Majid Boustany, support research relating to Francis Bacon or in the fields of history of art, archaeology or museum studies, and early-career artists through a programme of scholarships and prizes developed in association with four distinguished institutions.

Musée du Louvre | Research Scholarship

The Majid Boustany Research Scholarship is awarded on an annual basis to a PhD student working on a thesis in the field of art history, archaeology or museum studies, with no restriction as to period or geographical area. The scholarship is worth €10,000. It is funded by the Majid Boustany Fund within the Musée du Louvre Endowment Fund and is established as an award in perpetuity. The first scholarship was awarded in 2025.

Candidates from the following French graduate schools and universities are eligible: the École du Louvre, Sorbonne University (Paris I), Paris-Nanterre University, EPHE (École Pratique des Hautes Études), Paris-Sorbonne University (Paris IV), Sorbonne Nouvelle University, EHESS (École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales), École Nationale des Chartes, Lille University, Strasbourg University, Bordeaux Montaigne University, Poitiers University, Aix-Marseille University and Tours University.

Majid Boustany Research Scholars will be selected by a panel chaired by the Director of Museum Studies and Support for Research in charge of the Dominique-Vivant Denon Centre at the Louvre.

My wish, in creating this new research scholarship within the Musée du Louvre, is to provide permanent funding for a grant for students working on a PhD thesis in the main fields of art associated with the museum.
