Scholarships and Prizes

The Francis Bacon MB Art Foundation and its founder, Majid Boustany, support research relating to Francis Bacon or in the fields of history of art, archaeology or museum studies, and early-career artists through a programme of scholarships and prizes developed in association with four distinguished institutions.

Musée du Louvre | Denon Prize

The Denon Prize offers financial support to talented young scholars who have successfully submitted a PhD thesis in history of art, archaeology or museum studies and wish to publish it.

Awarded annually, it is worth €12,000 and is designed to cover all the costs associated with publication. It is established in perpetuity and is financed by the Majid Boustany Fund within the Musée du Louvre Endowment Fund.

This prize was awarded for the first time in 2025, the bicentenary year of the death of Dominique-Vivant Denon.

To find out more, explore the Dominique-Vivant Denon Centre website.

In instigating the Denon Prize, the first prize to be implemented at the Musée du Louvre, my aim was to provide a permanent means of supporting the publication of doctoral research in the fields of history of art, archaeology and museum studies and to pay heartfelt tribute to Dominique-Vivant Denon, an outstanding figure in the history of France, who was both the first director of the Musée du Louvre under Napoléon Bonaparte and a great pioneer in museum studies and Egyptology.
