Scholarships and Prizes

The Francis Bacon MB Art Foundation and its founder, Majid Boustany, support research relating to Francis Bacon or in the fields of history of art, archaeology or museum studies and early-career artists through a programme of scholarships and prizes developed in association with four distinguished institutions.

École du Louvre | Research Scholarship

In 2016, the Francis Bacon MB Art Foundation concluded an agreement with the École du Louvre to set up a research scholarship for PhD students. Every four years, a €30,000 grant is awarded to a doctoral student who is researching Francis Bacon or whose research topic is directly connected with him (for instance, it might compare Bacon with one or more other artists or explore specific aspects of his art or working practice). The research project could also broaden to problematise its topic via a multidisciplinary approach taking in fields such as literature, decorative arts, film and photography, provided there is a link with Francis Bacon.

The €30,000 research scholarship is awarded as three annual payments of €10,000. It is intended to cover tuition fees and the cost of accommodation. The student’s research must be conducted in the École du Louvre’s postgraduate studies programme or in partnership with a university under a joint supervision agreement with the École du Louvre.

The next research scholarship will be awarded in 2025.
