The Francis Bacon MB Art Foundation has just completed production of a new video interview entitled Francis Bacon/Jacques Saraben: Encounters.
In this captivating exchange conducted by Alain Amiel, Jacques Saraben, a French visual artist and photographer who was close friends with Francis Bacon, gives a first-hand account of his connection with the British artist that is rich in insights.
Jacques Saraben was welcomed by Francis Bacon for the first time in 1972, when the painter received him in his studio at 7 Reece Mews, in London, following a request for an interview. Two further meetings took place during the summer of 1974, in the Bordeaux area, where Saraben was living at the time. In the interview, he shares some memorable anecdotes, accompanied by a wealth of photographs of the painter, along with hitherto unseen extracts from the London interview and a film Saraben directed in châteaux near Bordeaux during Bacon’s visit.
