The Francis Bacon MB Art Foundation awards its fifth artist support scholarship to a young artist from the Villa Arson

22 February 2026

On Thursday 19 February 2026, the Francis Bacon MB Art Foundation’s fifth artist support scholarship was awarded to Dany Albiach during the preview of two exhibitions entitled ‘Magnanrama’ and ‘Mechanical Kurds’ at the Villa Arson, in Nice.

The scholarship was presented to the recipient by Aurélie Valion, the Deputy Director of the Foundation. Ulrika Bytter, the Director of the Villa Arson, was also in attendance. It will result in a residency and a solo exhibition at the Villa Arson from 10 July to 27 September 2026.

Since 2017, the Francis Bacon MB Art Foundation has supported emerging contemporary artists by awarding a scholarship to a young graduate of the Villa Arson whose artistic practice and development centre on painting and drawing. The chief component of the scholarship, which is awarded every other year, is a grant of €10,000 designed to provide an artist with the means to develop and complete their artistic projects.

Dany Albiach was born in 1999. He lives and works in Lyon and graduated from the Villa Arson in 2024. His artistic practice is pluralistic: he explores the notions of traces, memory and resuscitation of the past via drawing, photography, sculpture and screen printing, pondering the materiality of images and their potential to build narratives. Fragments of his memory, family archives and fiction are central to his compositions. This multiple approach produces sensitive, silent artworks that invite the viewer to reconsider the continuity of time. From his foundation year at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Lyon in 2017 to his residency in Issoudun in 2025, his past experiences have nurtured and helped structure his artistic explorations.

He was chosen to receive the Francis Bacon MB Art Foundation artist support scholarship from a shortlist of six young artists who graduated from the Villa Arson in 2024 or 2025 and who stood out for their work in the areas of painting and drawing.

From 3 March to 2 May 2026, Dany Albiach is presenting a solo exhibition entitled ‘Mémoire Fugitive’ (Fleeting Memory) at 46 St Paul Gallery, in Saint-Paul-de-Vence.
