On 22 May 1985, Bacon is granted a second retrospective at the Tate Gallery. It is a rare accolade for a living artist to be honoured twice with major exhibitions at the Tate.

One hundred and twenty-five of Bacon’s paintings are shown. His international reputation as Britain’s greatest living figurative artist is now assured.
