ÉCOLE DU LOUVRE | RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIP

In 2016, the Francis Bacon MB Art Foundation entered into a partnership with the École du Louvre to award a grant to their PhD students. Every four years a research scholarship is offered to a postgraduate from the École du Louvre who is undertaking a PhD thesis on Francis Bacon, or whose PhD thesis has a direct link with the British artist (eg. comparative studies between Francis Bacon and one or several artists, thematic studies about his work or his practice). The student’s research project could take a multidisciplinary direction, extending into fields such as literature, decorative arts, filmmaking and photography so long as its central concerns relate to Francis Bacon.

The research scholarship amounts to 30,000 euros, corresponding to an annual 10,000 euros payment over three years. This amount covers the student’s various expenses (school fees, travel and accommodation outgoings, research costs…) during his or her three years of research. The student’s researches must be carried out in a postgraduate programme at the École du Louvre or in partnership with a university engaged with a co-supervision programme with the École du Louvre.

The next research scholarship will be awarded in 2024. For more information, please see the École du Louvre website
